A Chitungwiza man is lucky to be alive after he was allegedly axed by his wife following a domestic dispute at the weekend.

Edward Dhliwayo of Mayambara on the outskirts of the dormitory town said his wife struck him several times on the head before chopping off his middle finger.

“I was drunk and my wife attacked me with an axe several times on the head,” he said yesterday. “When I fainted, she chopped off my middle finger and left me for dead.”

Dhliwayo said he had an argument with his wife over disciplinary action against their child leading to the bloody wife.

The case reported at Dema police station is awaiting trial at the Chitungwiza magistrates’ court. Freddy Misi, chairman of Varume Svinurai — a non-governmental organisation set up to help male victims of domestic violence – said such cases were on the increase.
