Zifa president Cuthbert Dube last night went back on his word and reconfirmed that the Asiagate ban is being effected on all players fingered in the match-fixing scam as reported by this paper on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Dube had said only three players Thomas Sweswe, Nyasha Mushekwi and Method Mwanjali had been banned only to issue a late night statement retracting his statements as the circus continued.

In an earlier report on the sports pages, we had reported that Dube had gone against the resolutions of a Tuesday meeting which had specifically stated that all players had been banned.

His statement last night read: Zifa would like to confirm that all players fingered in the Asiagate scandal report are ineligible for call-ups for national teams until they are cleared by the Zifa Independent Disciplinary Ad-Hoc Committee.

The association invites the players in question to come forward and volunteer information on their involvement in the infamous trips between now and mid-February.

The information which the players shall volunteer shall be treated with the strictest confidentiality. Players willing to make appointments for the meetings with the association shall do so through the office of the chief executive officer.

The association would like to reiterate that the exclusion of the players fingered in the Asiagate report scandal is by no means a ban, but a temporary suspension until the players have been cleared by the Independent Disciplinary Committee.
