Twenty–nine-year-old Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial deputy youth chairperson Lungisani Ngwenya, who was found dead on Monday, has been declared a liberation hero sparking outrage from other political parties.

Ngwenya, who was found dead at his family home in Nkulumane suburb on Monday, was yesterday declared a liberation hero and will be buried in Bubi District today.

But, other political parties have since condemned the move.

“It shows that the declaration of heroes is now a circus,” said Zapu spokesman for southern region, Methuseli Moyo.

“Those people will remain Zanu PF heroes and not national heroes.

“They have buried the concept of the hero status; it will go down with the coffin of that young man.

“Now they can even declare a goat as a hero as long as it belongs to a Zanu PF person.”

The Bulawayo provincial spokesperson for the MDC formation led by Welshman Ncube, Edwin Ndlovu, said the decision did not come as a “surprise” to his party.

MDC-T deputy national organising secretary Abednicho Bhebhe said the decision showed that “we are being ruled by a granny whom people are taking advantage of . . . it shows that in Zanu PF there are people who have no conscience”.
