KUZ technical director Samson Muripo said the championships will be held on February 11 at Mbares Stodart Hall.

Muripo said South Africa and Swaziland have confirmed they would send participants while Botswana have also shown interest.

Zimbabwe will be represented at the championships by World Cup gold medallists Tendai Chaparadza, Kelly Mtisi and Austin Mucheni.

Other Karatekas on the hosts list are Lovemore Nyamutswa, Malvery Muyambo, Gilmore Chakanyuka, Shadreck Kwasha, Clemence Kampila and Shingirai Murimi. Muripo said young and upcoming Karatekas were also expected to feature at the tournament.

To prepare for the young ones, KUZ will hold a Junior and Colts Full Contact Karate Championships on Saturday at Glen View 1 Community Hall.

The championships, which are sponsored by Arosume Property Development and Nakas Cuisine is for Karatekas aged between 8 and 17.
