Alick Macheso’s Orchestra Mberikwazvo has vowed their band will not be affected by the abscence of Franco “Slomo” Dhaka and Selemani Mpochi, who are said to have joined Sulumani Chimbetu’s Orchestra Dendera Kings.

In an interview, Macheso’s manager William Tsandukwa said there would be no changes in the group, but Mberikwazvo would have a new outfit that will make everyone happy.

“Remember when we went to the UK in 2003? All band members left and only two of us, Macheso and I, returned. But Mberikwazvo did not disband.

We progressed, so this will not change anything but bring about a new outfit,” said Tsandukwa.

This follows reports Chimbetu purchased a MercedesBenz E200 and Toyota Chaser for Franco and Selemani respectively as part of their deal.

This is not the first time dancers have deserted Macheso for Chimbetu.

In 2010, three of Macheso’s dancers joined Dendera Kings citing poor remuneration as their reason to leave Mberikwazvo.

However, Tsandukwa revealed this would not strain relations between his boss and Chimbetu.

“I know that reporters are now after the relationship between Macheso and Chimbetu.

“Write whatever you want, but their relationship will not change in any way. It’s just like football where players just leave,” he said.

Efforts to get comments from Chimbetu and Franco were fruitless as they were not reachable on their mobile phones.

This has come barely two weeks after Chimbetu’s dancers deserted him and joined upcoming dendera star Tryson Chimbetu.
