Newly-promoted Castle Lager Premier Soccer League club Quelaton kick-start their preparations for their maiden appearance in the top-flight league by holding trials at Mpopoma High School today.

Club chairman James Rugwevera yesterday confirmed they would start their preparations for the season by conducting the one-week trials.

“We are starting our season preparations tomorrow (today) for a week. We are aiming to get about five players to join us. We want players who will be able to fit into our system of play,” he said. “We want to get players who will help us remain in the Premiership.”

Quelaton were promoted into the Premiership after they shrugged off the challenge from Railstars in the Zifa Buscod Southern Region Division One League last year.

Rugwevera said the coming-in of Quelaton would assist in uplifting the standards of football in the city and asked the Bulawayo community to rally behind the team.

“I would like to appeal to the Bulawayo community to come and support us. We believe that the coming-in of Quelaton will also help in improving the standards of football in Bulawayo as they will be more competition. Families will be brought together because at times players have to leave their families to go and play in other cities,” he said.

They are yet to name their sponsors after announcing that they had secured sponsorship allaying fears they would sell their franchise.

The club is coached by Thulani Sibanda who is assisted by Clement Chimimba and boasts of experienced players like Njabulo Ncube, Patrick “Mboma” Mpofu and Sizalobuhle Dube.
