Two Harare service station employees have appeared in court for allegedly swindling their employer of the day’s takings amounting to $31 300.

Rangarirai Chidziva (51) of Kuwadzana Extension and Justice Kabeta (35) of Budirio 1 were arrested on Christmas Day and charged with theft.

It is the State’s case that the two, employed at X-Treme Oils Service Station in the city allegedly hatched a plan to steal from their employer on December 24.

At around 6pm Chidziva allegedly indicated to his unidentified boss that he had cashed $31 300 and that he had deposited the money in the company’s safe box.

Chidziva who was supposed to take the safe keys home as instructed by his boss, however handed them to his alleged accomplice, Kabeta.

Kabeta kept the keys till 10pm and then allegedly raised a false alarm that the safe was not locked and that there was no money in the safe.

The pair was yesterday granted $200 bail apiece and remanded to January 13.

Harare provincial magistrate Kudakwashe Jarabini ordered Chidziva to surrender his passport. Molyn Mutamangira prosecuted.
