The Highlanders Juniors Academy will play FC Platinum juniors at Barbourfields Stadium on Friday in a match aimed at evaluating the progress of the school of football since its establishment at the beginning of the year.

The academy was established in partnership with Canada-based First Mobile Sports Academy, run by Isaac Mbedzi, who is in the country. Mbedzi yesterday said: “We will be recording the matches because we want to assess how they have been doing since the establishment of the academy in April.

“We have chosen Platinum because I hear they have a good programme as well.

“We want to make a full assessment of players. They have played EM Sports, which is a local team and want to have it different by inviting a team from another province. If funds were permitting, we would also be going to Harare,” Mbedzi said.

Through his academy in Canada, Mbedzi said the long-term focus was to take players from the Highlanders juniors to play for First Mobile Sports Academy in the Gothia Cup as guest players for exposure to the type of play in Europe.
