Gwanda municipality is reportedly courting construction companies to build a water reservoir at Spitzkop Mountain to ease the town’s water woes.
This was revealed by Gwanda mayor Lionel DeNecker in a recent interview. He said the local authority had already done all the ground work and the plan had been drawn where the tank would be built.
DeNecker said the government this year allocated $720 000 for various projects under the public service investment fund.
“We are getting tenders soon for the construction work to begin,” he said.
He said the government allocation was meant for water sanitation and infrastructural development. DeNecker said some of the money would be channelled to the initial construction of the reservoir.
The initial phase is expected to cost $350 000. The mayor said the project would go a long way in solving water problems that affected most high-lying areas which experienced constant water shortages due to poor pumping capacity at the main water distribution works.
Suburbs such as Spitzkop, Jacaranda, parts of Phakama and Senondo have for a long time been experiencing water supply problems.
