MUTARE — A beer drinking outing by a Mutasa villager ended tragically last week after he slipped off a footbridge and drowned on his way home.

Police in Manicaland confirmed the incident and urged people to avoid crossing flooded rivers.

They identified the victim as Osleed Kudumba (24) of Dudzai village under Chief Mutasa’s area.

According to police, Kudumba left his home on November 24 for a drinking party with friends at Sherukuru business centre.

At the business centre they drank beer up to around 11pm. They then left the centre for home, but after walking for a while they took different directions on their way home.

When Kudumba approached a flooded river, he slipped off the footbridge as he was trying to cross. He fell into the river and drowned.

The following morning, villagers discovered Kudumba’s body floating in the river and alerted the police.
