FILABUSI — A married 20-year-old man from the Nkankezi area in Filabusi who proposed love to a 15-year-old Grade Seven pupil and later impregnated her has been slapped with a 20-month jail term.
Fanuel Dube pleaded guilty to charges of having sexual intercourse with the minor when he appeared before Filabusi magistrate Shillah Nazombe.
The magistrate sentenced him to 20 months in jail. Six months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
The remaining 14 months were suspended on condition he performed 490 hours of community service at Sebhatha Primary School.
The court heard that sometime in December last year, Dube fell in love with the girl and they had a sexual encounter once in December. In April this year they got intimate again.
The girl fell pregnant and the matter came to light when Dube’s wife discovered the affair and assaulted the girl.
Her grandmother took her to the clinic where it was discovered the girl was already pregnant.
Initially Dube and the girl’s family had settled for pregnancy damages of one beast to be paid to the girl’s parents.

But later the parents reported the matter to the police leading to Dube’s arrest.
In his defence, Dube claimed that though he knew the girl was still doing primary level of education, he believed she was grown up due to her big frame and big breasts.
