In what could be a major climbdown, FC Platinum have rested their championship push and declared their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League championship dreams as over.

Since pre-season, the ambitious platinum miners have been bullish about their title aspirations.

Following last Sunday’s home defeat to Dynamos, the Zvishavane side has now for the first time admitted they have surrendered their title push to DeMbare.

The defeat at Mandava sounded a death knell to Platinum’s title charge as they were toppled from the top by a ruthless Dynamos who are expected to run over little Kiglon at Rufaro Stadium tomorrow.

At the same time, the Rahman Gumbo coached-side would be across city at Gwanzura Stadium playing relegated Shooting Stars.

Dynamos and Platinum share top spot both with 55 points, but the Harare giants enjoy a superior four-goal difference.

Platinum secretary Philemon Muvengwa yesterday admitted last weekend’s loss extinguished their title hopes and rendered their season over.

The admission could suggest the platinum miners were beaten into submission by Dynamos.

Muvengwa said they would go back to the drawing board and ready themselves to launch another bid next season.

“Our match against Shooting Stars is no longer important. The season is over and we are now waiting for next season and start afresh.

“Actually, we have started preparing for the next season. We will take a break soon, then regroup in a month’s time or so. We hope to return much stronger and better next season,” said Muvengwa.

“Yes, I mean we have surrendered the title to them (Dynamos). It is the reality and let’s face it. The better team of the day won. Had we won all the games we lost we could have made it starting from that first home loss against Gunners,” he added.

Platinum still have a mathematical chance to claim the title if DeMbare lose to relegated Kiglon, which is highly unlikely given the Glamour Boys’ indomitable form.

The Zvishavane side will be banking on their striker Nelson Mazivisa who is on loan at Kiglon to dash Dynamos’ hopes of winning the championship.
