Reigning Miss Zimbabwe Malaika Mushandu, who recently participated at Miss World finals in London, arrived in the country on Wednesday to a warm welcome from the corporate sector.

She jetted into the country early morning and was met at the airport by officials from the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, friends and relatives.

A welcome ceremony for the beauty queen was held at Rainbow Towers hotel where representatives from the business community congratulated her and pledged their support for the Miss Zimbabwe pageant. Malaika came ninth at the global beauty showcase making her the second Zimbabwean to make it to the top 10 in the history of Miss World.

Edgars Zimbabwe brands manager Anna Chinyoka said they would want to keep working with the Miss Zimbabwe pageant.

“We would love to keep working with Miss Zimbabwe. We are happy for Malaika because she has achieved what has not been achieved since 1994. It is our pleasure to be associated with such success and we will continue working with Miss Zimbabwe organisers,” said Chinyoka.

Edgars Zimbabwe is among a handful of corporates that have been working with Mushandu during her reign. Other sponsors at the event included Chief Jerry Okeke, TN Holdings, NetOne and VW Engineering.

In an interview with NewsDay Mashandu said: “It was not an easy journey for me representing my country although I had the confidence that I would represent it to the best of my ability.

“Now that I have experience, I feel there is need to nurture our local models and prepare them for the standards required at international level,” she added.
