MASVINGO — A 30-year-old man from Manjova Village, Chief Nyamandi area in Gutu allegedly shot his 10-year old sister with a catapult before raping her after she passed out as a result of the attack.

The man, whose identity cannot be published to protect the minor, is said to have met his sister on her way to fetch water from Dewure River on October 18.

He allegedly attacked her with catapults, hitting her on the head and she passed out. He then allegedly dragged her to a nearby bush, removed her pants and raped her once.

When she regained consciousness, he allegedly threatened her with death if she told anyone what happened before ordering her to go home. However, the juvenile reported the matter to her parents who in turn alerted the police, leading to the man’s arrest.

The accused was not asked to plead to the rape charge when he briefly appeared before Masvingo magistrate Makamera Waini on Tuesday.

The magistrate denied him bail arguing that he was likely to interfere with investigations since he twith his juvenile sister stayed under the same roof. He was remanded in custody to November 07.
