A-54-year old man from Burnside in Bulawayo allegedly assaulted a female police officer, hurled racial insults at her and described her as “stupid as your uncle (President Robert) Mugabe”.

David Macneill was not asked to plead to charges of assault and undermining and insulting the Office of the President when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tawanda Muchemwa on Monday.

He was remanded to October 28 on $150 bail.

The court heard that on October 9, Macneill met the complainant, a female police officer, Ardonius Virginials Richards (44) of Ross Camp in Bulawayo, at a city nightclub.

He allegedly confronted and accused her of calling him a racist.

A quarrel ensued between the two and Macneill allegedly pushed Richards violently against the wall. He later allegedly spat on her face and insulted her as being as “stupid” in Ndebele.

Following the alleged incident, Macneill was arrested and charged with assault and undermining the Office of the President.

Marvin Nzombe is prosecuting.
