Popular television personality Lawrence Benson Banda, also known as Lawrence Simbarashe, or simply “Bhonzo”, has filed an urgent application for a protection order against his wife, Pain Mugura, whom he accuses of physically assaulting him.

In his court papers filed at the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court, Banda said he feared for his life since his wife was allegedly violent and abusive. However, the ZTV comedian-cum-producer is yet to raise $5 for the revenue stamp fees required by the court to process his application which he filed last week on Thursday.

Banda’s completed court application papers are still being held at the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court, awaiting payment of the fees. According to the Civil Court procedure, an application of this nature can only be processed and set down for hearing upon payment of the required revenue stamp fees by the applicant. In his affidavit which is part of the application, Banda said he was living in constant fear of his wife.

“She (Mugura) is dangerous, for as long as I am there, I have to be quiet as she speaks,” Banda said. He said last week on Tuesday, his wife verbally insulted and ordered him to leave their matrimonial home in St Mary’s and move to his sister’s place in Mbare.

“I asked her to respect my mother and relatives and she talked about her kids dying. She then picked a shovel from the next room and tried to hit me on the head, but I blocked it,” he said in his affidavit.
