Motor Action are still in the hunt for a treble after they labored to a 2-1 win over Monomotapa in the $1 million Mbada Diamonds first round cup match at Sakubva Stadium yesterday.

Russel Madamombe opened the scoring for Monoz in the 14th minute before Motor Action fought back with two goals from Allan Gahadzikwa in the 37th and 83rd minute.

The Bulls also had the luxury of missing a penalty in the 27th minute after Monomotapa defender Dominic Mukandi was charged with lifting his leg dangerously in the box but Themba Ndlovu spot kick was saved by goalkeeper Jorum Muchambo who had a good in office.

The Joey Antipas-coached won the BancABC Sup8r Cup after beating Highlanders 1-0 and they are at the top of the Premier Soccer League with 43 points-a lead they share with FC Platinum.

The Mighty Bulls have been a thorn in the flesh for the Taurai Mangwiro-coached side as they have beaten them three times this year including a 2-1 win in the BancABC Sup8r quarter finals at the same venue.

Madamombe stole the thunder with a thunderous free kick that left veteran Bulls goalkeeper Marlon Jani a mere spectator.

Motor Action then equalised in the 37th minute when Gahadzikwa headed the ball home after a defensive mix up.

After the breather, both teams played with more caution as both were looking for a sucker punch until in the 72nd minute but Monomotapa goalie Muchambo was quick to react when he used his legs to block a low pile drive from the Mighty Bulls defender Bernard Passmore.

With fans now thinking that the match was heading into penalty shootout Monomotapa defender Morgan Mangombe failed to clear a seemingly loose ball which saw man of the match Gahadzikwa scoring his brace in the 83rd minute to seal the victory.

Mangwiro said at the end of the match: “Thee team played well and we were just unlucky. Maybe you should have seen what happened; I think there was no fairness from those who handled the match, ‘he said
