The biggest football club knockout competition in the history of the local game, the Mbada Diamonds Cup, will be launched this evening.

Mbada Diamonds, a major diamond mining firm which is in partnership with the government in the extraction of diamonds in Marange, last month unveiled a $1 million sponsorship deal with the Premier Soccer League that will see all 16 league teams taking part.

The winner of the cup is guaranteed a cool $75 000, a floating trophy and a ticket to represent the country in the Caf Confederations Cup next year.

Mbada Diamonds will also give the winning team $150 000 worth of accommodation and air tickets sponsorship subsidy to help cut costs that are associated with participating in the African Safari.

There will be more spin-offs for the winners with further revelations of kit sponsorship for use during the Caf Confederation Cup and other benefits.

The runner-up will pocket $50 000. A full package for the tournament is expected to be unveiled on Friday.

A draw for the 16 teams is also expected to be conducted at today’s function to determine the first round opponents up until the final.
