The National Association of Secondary School Heads junior basketball developmental league action resumes on Thursday with six schools playing their first set of games in the North-Eastern League.

The league caters for the juniors in the Under-14, U-15 and Under-16 categories.

Gifford High School host Milton while Christian Brothers College play Masiyephambili. The last match for the day will pit Petra against Falcon College.

In the girls’ section matches to be played tomorrow invovle Northlea taking on Masiyephambili at Masiyephambili while Girls College face Eveline Girls High School at Girls College.

Townsend host Petra in the last league game lined up for Friday.

Bulawayo Basketball Association president (competition) Ndumiso Mabhena confirmed they are starting a league today aimed at identifying players at grassroots level in secondary schools.

“We are having our first games in the North-eastern League tomorrow (Thursday).

“It is exciting because the players are enthusiastic about participating in the league. It is also important because we get some of the top players from these developmental sides,” he said.

Convent are a strong force in basketball in Bulawayo and they will bank on Zimbabwe national team players who include Rumbidzai Kabasa, Blessing Samson and Rukudzo Matsekwa to guide them to success in the Under-16 section.

They were the winners of the girls’ Under-16 and Under-18 tournaments that were played last term.
