Former Finance minister and Mavambo Kusile Dawn (MKD) president Simba Makoni is scheduled to address a rally at Njube Hall in Bulawayo on Sunday.

MKD Bulawayo provincial spokesperson Dyke Magwanyagwanya told NewsDay the rally was aimed at reaffirming the existence of the party.

“At the rally, the president will meet the structures, especially members of Bulawayo districts, both new and old, and the general public in the City of Kings. He (Makoni) wants to emphasise the point that he is still there and hasn’t gone anywhere. He also wants to emphasise the point that MKD is still in existence,” he said.

Magwanyagwanya said Makoni would today hold a meeting with his national structures to plan for the party’s elective congress set for September 28-30 at the City Sports Centre in Harare.

Makoni left Zanu PF in 2008 and ran for the country’s presidency under the banner of the MKD movement. He was supported by Dumiso Dabengwa who later ditched him and revived Zapu.

National hero and former Zanu PF secretary-general Edgar Tekere also campaigned for Makoni.
