A total of 65 acts are set to ignite the annual Intwasa Arts Festival that will run for a whole week in Bulawayo beginning on September 19.

Festival director, Raisedon Baya, told NewsDay that all is set for the showcase and that all 65 acts had confirmed their participation. Baya said thousands were expected to witness the showcase that would take place in seven different venues.

“With a few weeks to go before we set the country alive with Intwasa we are pleased with the ground that we have covered as the festival team, programming is almost done. All the venues have been booked and it’s guaranteed that the festival is happening,” said Baya. “The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Art Without Boundaries’ an expression that fits the arts disciplines that are featured in this year’s programming.”

Last year’s festival ran under the theme “Intwasa Once Again”. Deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Khupe officially set the ball rolling when she opened the arts event.

This year’s festival has been expanded to incorporate a whole range of art genres including visual arts, theatre, literature, dance, film, poetry and music.

“This is going to be a wholesome family spectacle and different tastes will be catered for as we try and bring a lively and vibrant city spirit through this festival,” he added.
