Amateur players from Bulawayo converge at Harry Allen Golf Club on Saturday to participate in the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Bulawayo Chapter Golf Tournament.

The format of the competition will be individual stableford.

Vice-captain of Harry Allen Dumisani Ndlovu yesterday told NewsDay Sport they were expecting a large turnout from golfers in the city.

“We are having a pre-season tournament at Harry Allen. It will be a fundraising competition as we are preparing for a bigger event which is the Commander’s Invitational Tournament which is going to be held in Victoria Falls next month,” he said.

He said the main purpose of having the competition was for the ZNA to interact with businesspeople as they do a lot of business with various stakeholders.

“The army people do a lot of business with different companies and individuals. This tournament has been organised so that people meet in a relaxed atmosphere outside work,” he said.

Ndlovu said there would be prizes for four nearest pins and one prize each for the women and men golfers who get the longest drives.

Mufaro Chivonivoni, Raymond Mlotshwa, William Tshuma and Harry Allen public relations manager Moses Mlalazi are the players likely to be involved. Alfred Dube, Zondi Kumwenda,Edson Ngaaseke and former Highlanders chairman Rodger Muhlwa will also take to the greens.

Women golfers Lorraine Huwa, Margaret Vera, Rodnah Mutasa, Acy Zerf and Linda Rubaya are also expected to grace the event.
