Eighteen-year-old Walter Makumbe teamed up with his mother, Sibongile Mbiva (39), and two neighbours and bashed a Manyame Park woman whom they found with Mbiva’s husband in the bedroom.

This was after the group forced entry into the bedroom by breaking the door. The enraged Mbiva stripped the woman, who is the complainant in the matter, naked after striking her with an iron bar before Makumbe hit her again with a brick.

Members of the public who had gathered to witness the commotion were treated to free-for- all groceries which Makumbe is said to have thrown randomly to them while accusing his father of wasting money.

The incident is said to have occurred at night on June 26, in Manyame Park, Chitungwiza, where the woman is said to be resident.

On the day in question, Mbiva is said to have connived with her son Makumbe together with Sekai Banda (25) and Tafadzwa Kutai (24) and proceeded to the Manyame Park where Mbiva’s husband was believed to be camped.

On arrival, the four forced open the door to the passage way and headed for the bedroom where they knocked but got no response.

They again forced entry into the bedroom where they found the two lovebirds present.

Mbiva is said to have been incensed and picked up an iron bar which she used to strike the complainant with.

Makumbe joined the brawl and hit the complainant with a brick, resulting in her falling her down.

At this juncture Banda and Kutai joined and assaulted the complainant. Mbiva is said to have stripped the woman naked as she lay down on the floor.

Makumbe then took blankets, clothes and groceries and threw them to the members of the public after which they destroyed a wardrobe and three chairs all worth over $1 500.

The four appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Lazini Ncube facing charges of unlawful entry, theft, assault and malicious damage to property.

They were convicted and will be sentenced on August 25.

Tendai Shonai appeared for the State.
