A 36-year-old Marange man has been brought to court for allegedly raping and impregnating his 14-year-old daughter.

The alleged suspect from Mabvengwa village in chief Marange’s area was not asked to plead when he appeared before Mutare magistrate Noah Gwatidzo last week, facing two counts of rape.

Presenting the State case, prosecutor Truman Joma said sometime in April this year, the 36-year-old man raped his daughter once in the kitchen.

It is alleged he locked up his daughter in the kitchen during the afternoon and raped her. Later that day, he allegedly sneaked into a spare bedroom where the teenager was sleeping and raped her again.

After raping his daughter, the man instructed her not to tell anyone.

But his luck ran out when soon after the heinous act, the man was caught by his wife when he attempted to rape her once more.

After the incident, the man allegedly relocated his daughter to Odzi farms in an effort to conceal the crime.

The court heard the girl’s father left his home and became elusive after he discovered he had impregnated his daughter.

He was arrested on July 8, and remanded in custody to July 29 this year.

The court denied him bail arguing the man could abscond or interfere with witnesses considering the gravity of the offence.

He was however, advised to apply bail at the High Court if he wished.
