Peterhouse today hosts an Under-7 hockey, rugby and football festival that will feature five schools.

The games, sponsored by AMG Global, start at 9am and will next week move to Ruzawi where an Under-9 boys rugby festival, fillies netball (Under-11) and seven-a-side rugby and football Under-13 and 14 festival will take place. St George’s, Lomagundi, Prince Edward, St John’s and Peterhouse will take part in the first festival while Ruzawi, Springford, Lilfordia, St John’s Prep, Hartman House, Gateway, Springvale House, Lendy Park and Eaglesvale will feature in the second event.

Meanwhile, a two-day annual Super 12 Boys Hockey tournament gets underway at Gateway High School next Friday with 12 schools expected to take part.

Hosts Gateway will welcome Falcon College, St John’s College, Peterhouse, Hippo Valley, Petra, CBC, St George’s, Lomagundi, Prince Edward, Watershed and Eaglesvale.

Gibson Ngoma, one of the organisers, said all was set for the tournament with winners expected to walk away with a floating trophy.

“All the schools have confirmed their availability and we expect a more exciting tournament this year if compared to last year. All the schools that did not do well last time have shown a lot of improvement so there will be a lot of competition,” said Ngoma.

Falcon College are the defending champions after beating Petra in the inaugural tournament last year. Bulawayo-based CBC will be coming into the tournament as hot favourites after winning the Under-14 hockey festival that was held at Prince Edward School recently.

However, defending champions Falcon will not be pushovers while schools like Peterhouse and Hippo Valley have improved a lot in recent times.
