Slick prominent radio and television personality, Tichafa Matambanadzo, popularly known as Tich Mataz, who was arrested on Monday after he stepped into the lion’s den (Harare Central Police Station) walked to freedom on Tuesday.

Matambanadzo, who faces a charge of fraud, was granted $100 bail coupled with other conditions associated with temporary freedom.

He is to reside at the address he gave to the court and report every Friday to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Serious Frauds, who are handling the case.

Matambanadzo, is facing allegations he teamed up with Air Commodore Kennedy Zimondi and another alleged accomplice, Edith Chinyangare to swindle a Mbare man of $5 000.

Clad in a black designer suit, Matambanadzo was escorted by officers from CID while in the company of his lawyer, Wellington Pasipanodya.

According to the State’s allegations, on March 27 this year, Matambanadzo hatched a plan, in the company of his co-accused who have since appeared in court, to defraud Jimmy Makurumbandi after misrepresenting to him they were organising a trip to Geneva.

The arrangement, the State alleges, was that Makurumbandi would travel with Matambanadzo and Chinyangare in place of Zimondi whom they alleged was under a travel ban.

Matambanadzo and his co-accused allegedly asked the complainant to pay $5 000 for their trip as it was purportedly self-sponsored, but promised he would be refunded.

However, the trip never materialised prompting the complainant to report the matter, leading to the accused’s arrest.

Svodai Kadivirire appeared for the State.
