The Zimbabwe Ladies’ Golf Union (ZLGU) has announced the team to compete in the Regional All-Africa Challenge Trophy to be hosted by Zimbabwe at the Royal Harare Golf Club from July 1-3.

The Southern Regional Tournament will be used by the teams to prepare for the All-Africa Challenge Trophy in Botswana next year. Countries that will be represented at the tournament include South Africa, Angola, Botswana and Swaziland.

The team, coached by Cathy Riley includes two players who took part in the last edition of the tournament in Nigeria last year, Claire Minter and Rumbi Masamvu, who are being joined by Batsirai Tilowakuti and Loice Chingono who is the reserve.

ZLGU public relations officer Helen van Rensburg told NewsDay Sport in an interview on Tuesday that preparations for the tournament were now well on course.

“The preparations are going quite nicely. The ladies have just returned from Zambia and are familiarising themselves with the course at Royal Harare Golf Club. The players have had good preparations for this tourney as they recently came back from the Gilberson and Page Trophy where they came second to Kenya, while Claire Minter has also been in good form. There’s no doubt the players will give their best. The tournament will be held in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Ladies’ Open Strokeplay,” said van Rensburg.
