The long-awaited Zimbabwe National Women Football (ZNWSL) super league, is set to roar into action this weekend with a lot of exciting matches lined up.

All the games will be played on Saturday and ten teams across the country will be battling it out.

“I can confirm that the league starts on June 11. The league drew its ten teams from different parts of the country as the league is national,” said ZNWSL chairperson, Mavis Gumbo.

It is the first time that the country will have a professional national league.

The league consists of teams from Harare, Bulawayo, Masvingo and surprisingly, Guruve.

Popular Bulawayo team in the women’s football circles, New Orleans, will travel to Guruve for a date with Cosa at Mudhindo Stadium with In-line Academy from the City of Kings taking on Harare’s Flame Lily at Sikhulile High School, Lobengula West.

Cyclone Stars (Harare) will travel to Mutare for a date with Faith Drive Queen at Sakubva Stadium. In another match, Masvingo FC’s hunting ground will be used by Masvingo Queens against Mufakose Queens.

Black Rhinos will take on a Gweru team, Chipembere Queens at Brigade grounds in the capital city.

Women’s football turned the corner last year in March when the Mavis Gumbo administration managed to secure sponsorship and the senior team has since qualified for the All-Africa Games set for Maputo, Mozambique, in September.
