South African actor Presley Chweneyagae who starred in award-winning film Tsotsi is hopeful that upcoming local film The Gentleman, in which he is set to feature, will be a great production.

The actor jetted into the country on Tuesday for the shooting of The Gentleman, which also stars Munya Chidzonga and Kenya’s Sheila Kwamboka. He will be in Zimbabwe for two weeks.

Chweneyagae said he was thrilled to have been invited to work with Zimbabwean actors for the first time.

“This is my first time to partner Zimbabwean actors and I am looking forward to sharing my experiences and learning from them,” said

Chweneyagae who is also famed for his role in a movie about illegal mining titled Zama Zama.

The South African star added that he had intended to meet young children during his stay in the country.

“It is very important to give back to the community and I believe in empowering young children as they are our future leaders. I intend to teach the children about the arts industry and educate them about the different careers besides acting such as producing and directing movies.”

Shooting of The Gentleman will commence on May 17 in Harare before part of the cast travels to South Africa where some scenes of the film will be shot.

“We will meet Sheila (Kwamboka) in South Africa and her role will be acted out there,” said Chidzonga.

Rufaro Kaseke, one of the executive producers, said The Gentleman is an action drama that would be co-produced by local and South African companies.

“The film is set in Harare and Johannesburg and the producing partners, Predestined Pictures of South Africa, have put together the second unit for the South African scenes,” said Kaseke.

He added that Lobola production designer Wanisai Mujeyi was putting the final brushstrokes to a rather muted colour palette that will give the film “the look” that it requires.
