More than 120 golfers are expected to participate in the augural ZITF Golf Challenge tournament to be hosted by the Bulawayo Country Club (BCC) on Thursday.

BCC chairman Francis Mangwendeza said 80 golfers have so far confirmed their participation in the maiden competition.

“We are expecting about 120 golfers to take part in the competition and so far 80 have confirmed,” Mangwendeza said.

“We are expecting players from Bulawayo, Harare, Hwange and Gweru. We are also hoping to pick up a few international players for the challenge,” Mangwendeza said.

Victor Tall, Dumisani Ndlovu from Harry Allen Golf Club, Jonathan Moyo, Kenny Moyo, Thabani Ndlovu of BCC and Ray Mlotshwa and Misheck Manatsa of Bulawayo Golf Club are some of the names that have confirmed participation in the competition.

From the ladies’ side, Lorraine Guwa has confirmed taking part in the tournament.

“The preparations have been going on well. We have done some painting and renovations on the clubhouse. We have redone the bunkers on the course and prepared the greens and fairway and all these are in good condition. We are hoping that it will be a big competition, which is also in support of Khayelihle Children’s Village,” Mangwendeza said. Khayelihle is an orphanage along Airport Road.
