The MDC-T in Manicaland has unanimously endorsed party leader Morgan Tsvangirai as their presidential candidate for upcoming party congress to be held in Bulawayo at the end of this month.

Pishai Muchauraya, the Manicaland provincial spokesperson, said the executive in Manicaland gave Tsvangirai the green light to be at the helm of the party for another term.

“The decision was unanimous and we would want him to continue to guide the party for another term,” said Muchauraya.

The MDC T will at the end of this month hold a crucial congress in Bulawayo. Tsvangirai looks set to retain the party presidency.

Muchauraya said the newly elected provincial executive met on Sunday to appoint portfolio secretaries for the province.

The executive led by chairman Julius Magarangoma appointed the following people as Manicaland Province portfolio secretaries: Lynman Kudhlande (Defence and Security), Mununudzi Chitsa (Local Government), Eusebia Chikonyora (Education), John Mavhima (Lands and Agriculture), Samuel Muzerengwa (National Integration, Healing and Reconciliation), Thomas Garusa (Transport and Logistics), Teddy Chipere (Mines and Environment), Moses Zvinoira (Finance), Birgett Kidd (Policy and Research), Passmore Nyakureba (Legal, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs), John Chiremba (Labour and Social Security), and Agnes Mutarisi (Gender).

MDC-T Manicaland also managed to complete elections for the youth wing and women’s assembly which were stopped last week by the police because the time they had been allocated had lapsed.

Senator Keresenzia Chabuka was elected as the chairperson of the women’s assembly unopposed. In the youth wing Dennis Simango was elected as the chairperson. Muchauraya said Manicaland had now a full executive and they would be in office until 2016.

“The executive we now have will run the affairs of the party in Manicaland for the next five years,” said Muchauraya.
