The Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) has licensed seven more local publications.

ZMC chairman Godfrey Majonga confirmed the development, saying the new titles which include three national weekly newspapers and four magazines, were licensed on April 9.

The new publishers are News Times Media (monthly financial magazine), Ekxi Investment (monthly business magazine), Swim Africa Media (weekly newspaper and bi-monthly magazine), Zimbabwe Heritage Trust (weekly newspaper), The Joe’s Low (motoring magazine) and Sentinel Publications (weekly Christian newspaper).

The new publications are expected to hit the streets soon.

Their coming onto the market will tighten the already existing cut-throat competition in the print media industry.

The registration of the six new applicants brings to 22 the number of applicants registered by the ZMC since 2010.

Last May, the ZMC licensed three privately-owned dailies, NewsDay, Daily News and The Daily Mail, all of which are already printing.
