Marko Mavhurume, a Harare businessman who operates Century Executor and Liquidator Consultancy, allegedly stole $69 000 which was meant for estate beneficiaries.

Mavhurume (37) was appointed executor of the estate of the late Salome Kudzai Mushaninga by the High Court.

Mushaninga died sometime in September 2007.

The late Mushaninga’s family appointed Penelope Maizodza Chisvo of Mabvuku, to process her late sister’s estate and Chisvo registered all the property with the High Court leading to Mavhurume’s appointment.

Mavhurume is said to have sold Mushaninga’s estate and raised $69 000 which he deposited into his trust account held at Metropolitan Bank.

It is alleged that instead of distributing the money to the beneficiaries of the estate, Mavhurume withdrew the money and converted it to his own use.

The matter was discovered by Chisvo, who then reported Mavhurume to the police.

Meanwhile, Mavhurume is also alleged to have conned Philip Muchengeti of $7 300 after allegedly selling estate property, house number 8574, Glen View 8, without a High Court order.

It is alleged that in December 2009, Mavhurume advertised in the local newspapers that the house was up for sale and Muchengeti responded.

Muchengeti is said to have approached Mavhurume at his Vanguard House offices where an agreement of sale was entered into before he allegedly paid Mavhurume $7 300.

Sometime in August last year, Muchengeti discovered that he had been conned after it emerged that Mavhurume had sold the house without a High Court order.

Mavhurume appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei facing a count of theft of trust property and another count of fraud.

He was remanded out of custody on $50 bail to April 21, and was not asked to plead.

David Magwegwe appeared for the state.
