Reigning Miss Zimbabwe Malaika Mushandu left the country on Wednesday for the United Kingdom where she will attend the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards Ceremony to be held on Saturday in London.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) public relations and corporate communication manager Sugar Chagonda said Mushandu would be a special guest at the event.

“Malaika has been invited to present an award as a guest of honour for the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards. These are business awards for Zimbabweans who have done well in the UK business community,” said Chagonda.

She will take part in other activities there and is expected back home towards the end of the month.

Mushandu, who was in Malawi last week, returned home on Monday and told NewsDay that their tour was successful.

“The Malawi tour was educative as we managed to create stronger relations with a neighbouring country through cultural exchange. I noticed that the more you understand other people’s culture, the more you accept it and the less disputes you have with them,” said Mushandu.

Meanwhile ZTA has said the Miss Zimbabwe prize-giving ceremony will be held in Harare on April 30.

The event will see all the Miss Zimbabwe 2011 finalists returning to Harare to witness the handover of prizes.

The prizes will go to Miss Zimbabwe, Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, Miss Universe, Miss Face of Zimbabwe, Miss Personality and Miss Talent.

The models will be assigned for attachments with various companies.

Miss Face of Zimbabwe (Kimberly Cole) will continue with her attachment at G-Tide. Miss Zimbabwe, Miss Tourism Zimbabwe (Rumbidzayi Mudzengerere), Miss Talent (Nadia Gore) and Miss Personality (Lungile Zulu), who are currently attached to ZTA, will be deployed to different companies.

Initially the event was slated for March 17 but had to be postponed since most of the recipients had a busy international schedule.
