Zimbabwe Saints picked up maximum points via a Beaven Chikaka goal in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League at Luveve Stadium.

Chikaka made up for his earlier mistake as he scored the only goal of the afternoon 56 minutes into the game after missing a penalty in the 47th minute.

Referee Happy Mabhena pointed to the spot after Danger Fourpence handled in the box in the 47th minute. Chikaka could have put his side one up but he fired a weak shot that was easily saved by Kiglon goalkeeper Steven Chimusoro.

Zimbabwe Saints coach Willard Khumalo was happy with the result and applauded his side for keeping a clean sheet.

“We played well. We did not concede any goals. “The players made mistakes but we were looking for a positive result and we got it.”

Kiglon coach Partridge Muskwe blamed his “own tools”. “Our play was not so bad. The youngsters did not click and that cost us the game,” he said. Kiglon could have gone one up seven minutes into the game but Yves Ebabali struck over the bar before Chikaka missed a glorious chance after firing a weak shot at goal.

The visitors’ Tafadzwa Maingire failed to utilise a clean chance on the hour after benefitting from an exchange of passes in midfield to get clear sight of goal.

Three minutes later Chikaka was at it again; this time shooting straight at the goalkeeper before Ntokozo Tshuma hit the post in the 43rd minute after good work from Castro Ndebele.

Chikaka then turned villain in the 48th minute when his penalty was saved by Chimusoro after Fourpence had handled in the box, before giving the former champions the much-deserved win eight minutes later.
