BULAWAYO author Mpumelelo Ncube was recently honoured with The AfriCan Honouree Authors Award for My Cinderella, his debut romantic fiction book.

Ncube was, however, not able to attend the awards ceremony in South Africa, but he followed the proceedings virtually.

The AfriCan Honouree Authors Awards were founded about seven years ago by award-winning entrepreneur, author and international speaker Anthea Thyssen-Ambursley aimed at connecting “pen” soldiers in Africa.

Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, Ncube said he was optimistic that the book would continue to open avenues for him in his literary works.

“I am overwhelmed, this award means a lot to me. I am strongly looking forward to more wins as an author in the writing industry. This award has opened some avenues,” Ncube said.

“The award seeks to connect passionate creative writers of African origin from all over the world and honour them for publishing their works to ensure that the African content is not lacking in global literary expression.”

Ncube said his book gave solutions to heartbreaks as portrayed by the protagonist.

“Taking a break or vacation has been named the best way to deal with heartache as this helps one to reflect and accept the situation. For the fortunate, their heart’s desires are granted, as they get to end up with the love of their lives,” he said.

Ncube said he was working on a documentary titled Cecil: The true Lion King, which will be published before year end.
