BULAWAYO-BASED upcoming artiste Brain Mthetho, known as Rullzynation-IntwanakaGogo a Skhanda, says music helped him overcome depression.

In an interview with Standard style Mthetho said music saved his life and plays an important role in his social being.

“I was one of those kids who were raised by their grandmothers from my early childhood,” he said.

“In my situation it was trauma derived from not having what many children had things like family, security, sustainability among other things.

“I lost my mother at an early age and growing up without one was a sharp pain I could not heal from for a long time.”

“Then later l lost my brother to cancer who had also become a father and mother to me.”

“So this created a room for self-doubt, insecurity, emotionless, anger, feeling unloved and later on depression.

“I become the worst of myself and it caused a lot of people to turn their backs on me thinking maybe l was crazy or on drugs when that was not the case.”

The upcoming artiste said he was referred to a psychologist who helped him through the stages of understanding and beating depression.

“With music, this is where my process of healing started. I do music with passion that each and everything that l say in my music comes from a place of anxiety and depression,” he said.

“So through music I have learnt how to challenge and face my fears mainly and ever since it become my pill to depression. That’s how music saved my life.”

The artiste said he was releasing a new  track next month with the support of DJ Prince Eskhosini.

“I am releasing a new track with DJ Prince Eskhosini an amapiano jam which is a season’s greetings to my fans,” he said.

Mthetho gave Standard style an insight of his new brand as Rullzynation-Intwana Kagogo.

“I came a long way from struggles and downfalls more than my fingers could count,” he said.

“Lost in my own world as a child, l never gave up on my dreams and God never gave on me even though l had thrown the towel on him.

“So l will be dropping a project with three tracks plus a bonus titled A story l Never Told Anyone (ASINTA), which derives from my background as IntwanakaGogo.”

Mthetho said his music journey started in 2009 at high school.

“I started singing in 2009 at high school playing marimba. I was also in the school choir but professionally I started in 2014,” he said.

“I did so many tracks and projects with a crew l had called Rullz Money Swagg .”

“I started doing solo after the group and l dropped an mixtape called Came a long in 2020 and an album Da-Disturbia.

“Then in 2021 I released a five-track extended play (EP) titled uMnyakaWoMuthi, which was well received by listeners and fans.

“Lastly l would like to say depression is real but it kind of brought out the sharpness of the brand as IntwanakaGogo for beating depression.”
