Letter to my people: Dougie always aimed for gravy train

Douglas Mwonzora

My Dear People,

Dougie believes he is the cleverest politician ever to come out of Zimbabwe.

After seizing control of the MDC Alliance with  Lacoste’s assistance, first from Nelson Chamisa and later from Sis Thoko, Dougie vowed never  to join Ngwena’s choir also known as Polad.

At the time he told us that he would not be replacing Sis Thoko as an executive member of Polad because the controversial outfit was meant for 2018 presidential candidates and he was not among them.

Even after secretly meeting Ngwena at State House on two occasions, Dougie insisted that he would not join Polad.

He said he had instead presented demands for electoral reforms to the Zanu PF leader that were supposed to be discussed by a broad spectrum of Zimbabweans as opposed to a club of election losers having tea with the incumbent.

Some almost believed Dougie because he spoke with a lot of conviction on the need for the proposed electoral reforms to have a buy-in from the majority of citizens.

As we were still waiting for Ngwena’s response to Dougie’s demands, we were not so surprised to see the so-called opposition leader at State House on Friday during a Polad meeting where he was presented as a new entrant.

The meeting took place a few days after the Lacoste government announced that it had a set of electoral reforms that it would unilaterally impose on Zimbabweans ahead of the 2023 polls.

Some of you speculated that joining Polad was a way of seeking healing for Dougie after the March 26 humiliation where his candidates stood out for getting zeros at most polling stations.

Since that walloping, the floundering MDC-T has not attempted to contest any of the by-elections that have been held throughout the country.

They say birds of the same feather flock together.

Among the Polad members, only Zanu PF regularly takes part in by-elections and that shows Dougie is among like-minded politicians.

They are just in it for the trinkets that include cars funded by taxpayers that Launchmore has been dishing out to the Mteki’s of this world as if they are funded out of his own pocket.

Dougie is where he always wanted to be – aboard the gravy train.

The voters are watching and they will give Dougie and his acolytes at Polad a lesson they will never forget come 2023.

Listening to ZBC radio stations these days reminds one of the nutty one’s hey days.

After every news bulletin, there are boring advertorials ostensibly meant to extol Luanchmore’s achievements since that 2017 cowardly act against Gushungo.

Ironically, most of the projects they claim were spearheaded by Launcmore were spearheaded by Baba and only stalled because Lacoste had started its games to sabotage Baba.

The mandarins at the Information ministry, who are still reading from Jonso’s script, believe propaganda becomes the truth after repeated exposure.

A truth that has not been told enough is that even after the torture of Hondo yeminda jingles, voters still rejected Baba and he had to summon boys from the barracks in order for him to stay at State House.

Resorting to the barrel of the gun is also not a viable way of keeping state power as Gushungo learnt the hard way in his last days.

Talking about losing elections, the boys and girls at Dead BC have resorted to using the 2023 polls as a bargaining power.

The ‘incapacitated’ workers wrote a memo to the Information ministry asking for a meeting with Launchmore to discuss their welfare.

They said they want him to address issues ranging from non-payment of allowances, poor working conditions, low salaries and to a breakdown in relations between workers and management.

The workers said they wanted to discuss the “unpreparedness for the 2023 elections period (in terms of) resources, transport, equipment and staff morale.”

What is clear from the memo is that ZBC workers don’t see themselves as employees of a public broadcaster, but as appendages of a political party hence the plea to Launchmore.

Clearly they also don’t believe the propaganda that they dish out every day claiming that Zimbabwe’s economy is on the rebound.

If the economy was indeed on a recovery path, ZBC would be making enough money to pay them decent salaries.

Munopengaaaaa. Stop it.

Zanu PF is holding its central committee elections this weekend and we are told the party’s rules had to be bended backwards to allow the likes of Mthuli to contest.

The election seems to have made some of the deadwood very fearful of the prospect of losing their positions.

Patrick Chinamasa has been pleading for an extra central committee seat in Manicaland after he was rejected by his own home district.

The desperation shown by people such as Chinamasa shows the calibre of people that Zanu PF attracts.

They are mostly spent forces that are looking for survival means and Zanu PF through its patronage system does offer that.

It was during Baba’s days that the saying: “It’s cold outside Zanu” was popularised by propagandists such as Jonso to discourage disgruntled cadres from jumping the ship.

This is why they will never pave way for fresh blood.
