By Chelsea Musafare SOUTH Africa-based Zimbabwean Afro-fusion artiste Maxwell Gavi, who goes by the moniker Maxie Set Apart, is set to unite gospel artistes at the highly anticipated Worship Marathon in South Africa this month.

The Worship Marathon night scheduled for January 28 at AFM Benoni Restoration Centre, will also feature some of the finest upcoming gospel acts of Pastor Lo, Faith Monique, Nelly, Charles, Sharon, Shylock, Kinly Calvin, Hilton Nhidza, Lele, Donn3y, Lucky Vocal, Tino Prince Tinashe, Naomi, Michael Shereni and BRC Praise.

Speaking to Standard Style recently, Gavi who is also a presenter at After5radio, a Zimbabwean Diaspora online music radio station, said the event was inspired by the desire to unite Christians under one roof in worship and thanksgiving.

“Since January is a praying and fasting month for most people across all regions, we decided to come up with a brand new concept that we intend to run with every three months called Worship Marathon,” Gavi said.

“I spoke to a couple of gospel artistes in and out of South Africa about the idea. As a presenter at After5adio on a show called Lights On that airs every Tuesday and Wednesday from 6 to 9 pm, I realised airplay alone was not enough for specifically gospel artistes in a pregnant month like this. We needed more, hence this show is about ministering the word of God through melodies and words.

“It is going to be a roundtable concert where we sing, play and talk. Through these roundtable discussions and interviews, artistes will be given an opportunity to share their journeys with Christ and the ministry a large.”

He added: “After5radio is proudly airing the event since it has our own Zimbabwean diaspora upcoming gospel acts as well as South African acts. The event will also be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube.”

The radio presenter who is coordinating the event alongside Hilton T Borerwe and AFM Benoni Restoration Centre said that this year’s worship night would be different from the previous show as it will feature 16 artistes who are currently rehearsing and will minister together.

The Afro-fusion artiste is riding high following the release of his latest offering Handiendi which has been playing on Trace Gospel, published on Castly Africa and plays on some international gospel radios as well.

The track features a South African singer, Witness Phasha (Witty), lead guitarist played by Eliphaz from Tanzania, saxophone by Sim la Sax from South Africa, acoustic by Maxie and produced by DRC’s Papy Nsenga.
