Tarisayi Gashu set to release eight-track country album

Tarisayi Gashu

Emerging country music artist Tarisayi Gashu says her musical journey has been shaped by passion, perseverance and powerful storytelling.

“I am Tarisayi Gashu. I have been doing music for five years,” she said in an interview. “I started loving music at a young age, especially listening to Dolly Parton and Don Williams, because the messages in their songs touched me. When I looked at what happens in people’s lives, especially in matters of love and relationships, I felt deeply connected to that kind of storytelling.”

Inspired by the emotional depth and lyrical honesty of country legends Dolly Parton and Don Williams, Gashu has embraced country music as her chosen genre — a style still relatively uncommon among Zimbabwean female artists.

The singer is now preparing to release her debut full-length album, which will feature eight tracks. Ahead of the album launch, she has already released two singles: Painful Words, which is accompanied by a music video, and Missing You. Both songs explore themes of love, heartbreak and emotional reflection — elements that have become central to her artistic identity.

“The full album will be coming out in the next few days,” she said, expressing excitement about sharing her latest work with fans.

As a female musician, Gashu acknowledges the unique challenges women face in balancing artistry with family responsibilities.

“As women, we often need to dedicate a lot of time to our families and children. That can take up much of the time we would otherwise spend focusing on music,” she explained. “It becomes difficult to fully pursue our musical careers because of these responsibilities.”

Despite these challenges, Gashu remains committed to carving out her space in the country music scene. Through heartfelt lyrics and relatable narratives, she hopes to connect with audiences who appreciate authentic storytelling rooted in everyday human experiences.

With her upcoming eight-track album, Tarisayi Gashu is poised to further establish herself as one of the promising female voices in Zimbabwe’s growing country music landscape.
