The public violence case involving Buhera South Member of Parliament Ngonidzashe Mudekunye has been deferred to March 13 after the State applied for a postponement, citing an incomplete docket.

Mudekunye appeared before Chimanimani magistrate Regis Mawarire last Tuesday.

Prosecutor Hardlife Machando told the court that the matter was not ready for trial as investigations were still incomplete and requested a new trial date.

The defence lawyer, Benjamin Bhasikiti, opposed the application and asked the court to remove the matter from remand, arguing that the state should proceed by way of summons once it was ready to prosecute.

However, magistrate Regis Mawarire ruled in favour of the state and granted the postponement to March 13 for trial.

Mudekunye is out on US$100 bail.

The state alleged that on January 18, Mudekunye arrived at Birchnough Bridge driving his vehicle and instructed a female security guard, Prettymore Kasiya, to allow a truck that was following him to pass through the weighbridge without the required documentation.

Court papers alleged that Kasiya refused to comply with the instruction, leading to a confrontation during which Mudekunye allegedly assaulted her with open hands.

It is alleged that Kasiya was left writhing in pain and bleeding following the incident.

She later filed a police report, resulting in Mudekunye’s arrest.
