AGGRIEVED relatives of a Harare man, who was allegedly assaulted at MDC-T vice-president Elias Mudzuri’s bar before succumbing to the injuries sustained during the assault a few days later, yesterday dumped the corpse at the opposition politician’s rural home in Zaka, accusing him of being complicit in the murder.
The coffin, with the body of Ronald Mukumbira, was dumped on Mudzuri’s verandah early in the morning before police intervened and ordered the family to take it off.
The 23-year-old died on June 10, three days after he was brutally assaulted at Mudzuri’s Duriro Pub & Grill in Harare’s Workington industrial area.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed last night that they had ordered the bereaved family to follow proper procedures.
“Local police intervened and advised the parties to follow the law in terms of the burial and ensure due processes of the law were followed as police investigate the death of Mukumbira,” he said.
Nyathi said investigations were underway to ascertain circumstances leading to Mukumbira’s death.
Mukumbira died after telling his family that he was beaten by Mudzuri and other patrons at the bar.
