Gweru-based showbiz personalities Mai Patai and DJ Vas were on Thursday appointed Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council (ZNFPC) family planning champions for the Midlands province.
Pastor Respina Patai, aka Mai Patai and Elias Maginya, popularly known as DJ Vas on the Midlands province radio station 98.4 FM were officially appointed during a signing ceremony held in the province’s capital.
Speaking to Standard Style, the duo expressed appreciation for the recognition saying this would help them do more within the community and advance the cause of ZNFPC at all levels of engagements.
“I will work tirelessly to ensure that l meet ZNFPC’s expectations in driving their messages and encourage young people to make informed health decisions,” said DJ Vas.
He was appointed Adolescent and Sexual Reproductive Health champion. During his term, the radio presenter would be working with young people from the age of10 to 24 years.
Mai Patai said all the honour belongs God.
“I thank God for this honourable appointment as family planning champion for Midlands province,” she said.

ZNFPC regards, “family planning champions” as influential persons that helps to promote positive health seeking behaviours and accessing quality affordable clinical services.
The organisation’s provincial manager Karen Dzuke said: “Family planning champions’ main role is to portray Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council in a positive light through promotion of clinical health seeking behaviours among women and men of reproductive age.”
Meanwhile, Mai Patai who is promoting her latest project, a single titled Watch and Pray, said she would be pleased to work with women from various social groups regardless of their social status.
Mai Patai’s new albums carries six track namely Ndino Nyengetera, Settle My Matter, Handikundikane, Ndinotenda Mwanakomana, Mweya Mutsvene and Chii Chinganditye.
The award-winning musician’s rich musical catalogue has four quotable albums namely Makanaka (2004), Samulena (2010), Punish the Devil (2021) and Watch and Pray (2022).
