Zimbabwean power company Power Giants emerged as one of the biggest winners at the inaugural National Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Cooperatives Indaba and Exhibition, scooping two prestigious Presidential Awards in recognition of its remarkable growth and contribution to Zimbabwe’s engineering and industrial sectors.
Held at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC), the indaba brought together entrepreneurs, policymakers, financial institutions, development partners and industry leaders to strengthen Zimbabwe's MSME and cooperative sectors as key drivers of economic transformation.
President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa officially opened the event and toured exhibition stands before presiding over the Presidential Awards ceremony.
The three-day gathering also featured technical sessions, business networking opportunities and the launch of the new National Cooperatives Policy, all aimed at building an enabling ecosystem to accelerate the country's Vision 2030 agenda.
Addressing delegates, Mnangagwa reaffirmed government's commitment to supporting local enterprises as engines of industrialisation and economic growth.
“Our local entrepreneurs are proving that the future of Zimbabwe's industry is bright,” he said.
“This Indaba reflects our government's unwavering commitment to promoting private-sector-led economic growth.
“We are deliberately creating a platform for businesses to showcase their products, exchange breakthrough ideas, and access fresh opportunities.”

Against this backdrop, Power Giants was honoured with two Presidential Awards—one recognising its graduation from a medium enterprise to a large enterprise, and another naming it Zimbabwe's Best Electrical Engineering Firm for its outstanding contribution to infrastructure development, innovation and employment creation.
Speaking after receiving the awards, Power Giants chief executive officer Edzai Kachirekwa described the recognition as both humbling and unexpected.
“We really didn't see it coming, but probably because of what we have done and the movement which we have across southern and east Africa, the government has recognised us as Power Giants,” said Kachirekwa.
He said being recognised as Zimbabwe's leading electrical engineering company reflected the firm’s impact across multiple sectors of the economy.
“We were named the best electrical engineering firm in Zimbabwe, which has contributed immensely in every sector,” he said.
“One of the things we are proud of is employment creation.
“Whenever we have contracts or projects, we don’t employ fewer than 80 people.
“Sometimes we have four projects running simultaneously, each employing between 25 and 30 people.
“That means we can have well over 120 people working at any given time.”
Kachirekwa said the awards represented the highest honour the company had ever received.
“This is the greatest honour I have received from my country. Receiving an award from the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe is something we do not take lightly.”
He expressed gratitude to President Mnangagwa for recognising the company’s contribution to national development and also acknowledged the encouragement he received from Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri and Finance minister Mthuli Ncube during the awards ceremony.
Kachirekwa said the recognition belonged to the entire Power Giants family rather than to him alone.
“This job, I did not do it alone. I achieved it together with my team.”
He paid special tribute to his wife, Evelyn Tinashe Kachirekwa, describing her as the company’s strongest pillar of support.
“She has stood by me for the past 23 years,” he said.
“She has sacrificed so much and contributed immensely to ensuring that we have become what we are today.”
The Power Giants CEO also thanked employees, business partners, the media, friends and the government for their unwavering support throughout the company's journey.
