Green Light Trust restores mobility and hope in Zvimba

Green Light International Trust has brought renewed hope and dignity to people living with disabilities in Zvimba North, Mashonaland West, following the donation of wheelchairs and crutches to members of the differently-abled community.

The donation, which took place recently, forms part of the trust’s ongoing efforts to support and empower vulnerable communities across Zimbabwe.

In many rural areas, access to mobility aids remains limited, often confining people with disabilities to their homes and restricting their participation in social and economic life. Green Light International Trust’s intervention seeks to bridge this gap and restore independence.

Beneficiaries, many of whom had endured years of mobility challenges, expressed joy and relief as they received the much-needed assistive devices.

The wheelchairs and crutches are expected to significantly improve their quality of life, enabling them to move around with greater ease and confidence.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Green Light International Trust founder and director, Tawanda Makwiramiti, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to inclusivity and dignity for people living with disabilities.

“At Green Light International Trust, we believe every individual deserves to live with dignity and respect, regardless of physical ability,” Makwiramiti said.

“We are delighted to make a tangible difference in the lives of these community members and hope our actions inspire others to join us in creating positive change.”

He added that the trust remains committed to continued support for people with disabilities and called on other organisations and individuals to partner in advancing inclusivity and empowerment.

The gesture was warmly welcomed by the local community, with leaders expressing gratitude for the support.

A local councillor said the donation would have a lasting impact on beneficiaries and praised the trust for its commitment to grassroots development.

“This support will go a long way in improving lives in our community,” the councillor said. “We appreciate Green Light International Trust’s kindness and look forward to continued cooperation.”

The beneficiaries themselves were visibly moved, with one recipient describing the donation as life-changing.

“This gift will change how we live and move every day. We are truly grateful,” they said.

Zvimba North constituency is represented by Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Marian Chombo, who was represented at the event.

Green Light International Trust Public relations officer, Gamuchirai Zungu, highlighted the importance of community engagement in driving sustainable development.

“We believe meaningful change comes from working together with communities,” she said.

Makwiramiti also noted that the community had shown eagerness to collaborate with the trust on empowerment initiatives aimed at transforming lives.

The donation has brought renewed hope to people living with disabilities in Zvimba North, underscoring the power of compassion and collective responsibility in building inclusive communities.
