Flamboyant trees decimated in Harare

Every year around the beginning of November, during the summer months, Blakiston Street in Milton Park has a canopy and carpet of vivid red flowers from its magnificent flamboyant trees.

As time goes by, these trees are slowly vanishing from the street due to attack of termites and seekers of fire wood.

The latest tree is the one at the corner of Blakiston Street and Van Praagh Avenue, Milton Park.

A hospital is being built at the place and the health centre’s owners applied for permission to have the tree removed because its trunk has been hollowed out by termites and may be a danger to motorists and pedestrians.
