I only visited Thabo Bester on one occasion: Simz Ngema

ACTRESS and media personality Simphiwe Ngema

ACTRESS and media personality Simphiwe Ngema broke her silence after social media users have linked her prison visits to Thabo Bester’s prison escape.

In a statement, the Muvhango actress and Zimbabwean model, actor and TV personality Tino Chinyani baby mama said she did not visit Bester regularly nor was she the last person who visited him before he escaped last year.

“I have been extremely open about everything to those that have been investigating and I have nothing to hide. I am not the person that neither went there on a regular basis nor was I the last person to visit him before his escape,” said Ngema.

Ngema was being accused of being Thabo Bester’s accomplice in his criminal activities while South African socialite, TV personality and businesswoman Shauwn 'MaMkhize' Mkhize was being defended on Twitter.

“According to Thabo Bester’s visitors recorded list, a female celebrity who used to visit him in prison is former Muvhango actress Simphiwe Ngema. An unknown person named Thomas Gumede visited Thabo more than anyone else. Not the actor though. MaMkhize doesn't appear on the recorded list,” said the tweet.

Ngema then broke her silence admitting to have visited the convicted criminal but on one occasion because he owed her money.

“Thabo Bester was working in the entertainment industry and introduced himself as TK Motsepe and that’s how we made contact,” reads the statement.

“He seemed well connected and was able to organise meetings and big events which I and many other public figures were booked for. Till this day I was never paid for some of the events that I was booked for.

“In 2018 I went to the prison to demand answers, it was a difficult time in my life and he owed me money.”

The actress went on to write that her visit was on one occasion dated April 5, 2018 and that she has supporting documents to prove that. She concluded her statement by identifying herself as one of Bester’s victims.

“The media should stop vilifying his victims and using us as a tool for distraction because we also want answers,” read the statement.
