CAPS United’s title ambitions suffered another massive blow after they were forced to come from behind to rescue a 2–2 draw against bottom-of-the-table Triangle United FC at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.

The draw extended Makepekepe's dismal run to just one win in their last nine matches, leaving them frozen in third place with 34 points—now nine points adrift of league leaders Scottland FC.

This also markedCAPS United's fourth consecutive match without a victory.

Meanwhile, Triangle remained anchored at the foot of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League standings with 11 points from 20 matches.

The hosts initially broke the deadlock after half an hour when Triangle goalkeeper David Bizabani brought down Chawanangwa Kaonga inside the box.

Kaonga stepped up to the penalty spot and coolly fired the ball into the bottom corner to give CAPS United a 1–0 lead.

However, the joy was short-lived.

Triangle’s equaliser in the 38th minute was a thing of beauty.

Captain Thabani Kamusoko orchestrated the move from midfield, picking out Nyasha Chintuli on the left flank.

Chintuli cut inside and delivered a brilliant cross to an unmarked Aaron Zeka, who buried a first-time volley into the back of the net.

The visitors then stunned the Rufaro crowd into silence with the last kick of the first half.

A seemingly harmless overhead kick by Stephen Zhogi was completely mistimed by CAPS United goalkeeper Wallace Magalane under pressure from Zeka, allowing the ball to bounce into an empty net.

The blunder cost Magalane his place on the pitch, as he was replaced by Stephen Kwaku ahead of the second half.

CAPS United struggled to impose themselves after the break despite urgency being of the essence. Instead, a confident Triangle side continued to dictate play.

The hosts eventually found their saviour in the 77th minute through a contentious equaliser.

Kaonga slid in to meet a Brett Amidu cross, appearing to plough through goalkeeper Bizabani in the process, to secure his brace and rescue a solitary point for the Harare giants.

Despite dropping two crucial points at home, CAPS United coach Takesure Chiragwi chose to look at the silver lining.

"I want to thank God because where we thought we were going to collect maximum points, it goes the other way," Chiragwi said.

"The mistakes we made cost us two points, but that is water under the bridge; we just have to make sure that we take the positives, arise, and move on.

‘I think we had all it takes to wrap up the game and take all three points, but at the end of the day, it didn't work out.

“Overall, the guys tried their best. We continue to give our best, we don't lose hope."

On the other side, Triangle caretaker coach Alexio Sigion hailed his team's disciplined performance away from home as a stepping stone for survival.

"It's a better result for the team, and we are looking forward to a positive change going forward," Sigion said.

"It's a point gained playing away from home. The boys played according to instructions, and we managed to get two goals playing according to plan. It's a game of football, anything can change anytime, so we are not losing hope on avoiding relegation.

“We are going to fight to the end."
