A pupil from Kadoma’s elite Makseth International School claimed the gold medal at this year’s Hellenic Golf Tournament, an event that brought together top young competitors from schools across the country.
Christiano Rose (14), a form two pupil, clinched gold at the Order of Merit Award Tournament held at the ZRP Golf Course in Harare last Sunday.
As if that was not enough, Christiano’s sister, Izabella Rose (Form One), scooped a bronze medal at the same competition. The event ran parallel to the BT tennis competition in Harare, where another Makseth pupil, Bule Madziture (Grade 6), also won gold at the BTA Tournament 2026.
Makseth principal Talent Bako said the pupils’ impressive performances were testament to her school’s strong focus on holistic education, which includes facilitating sporting exchange programmes with renowned clubs locally and internationally.
“Last weekend’s outstanding performance at the Heritage Golf Tournament and BTA is a proud and defining moment for Makseth International School,” Bako said.
“Christiano Rose came first in the male category and his sister, Izabella Rose, a learner at Makseth, clinched second position in the female category.”
Bako added: “We also had a great performance from our tennis team in the BTA tournament, with Bule Madziture winning gold in the Tennis Green Ball category.
“This is a clear reflection of the dedication, discipline and talent of our students, as well as the commitment of our coaches and supportive parents.”

Bako said the achievements go beyond trophies and rankings as they reaffirmed the school’s belief in nurturing excellence both inside and outside the classroom.
“At Makseth, we are intentional about developing well-rounded individuals, and this success in golf and tennis highlights the strength of our extracurricular programmes in shaping confidence, resilience and competitive spirit.”
She said the school remained committed to investing in “diverse sporting and co-curricular opportunities that allow every learner to discover and maximise their potential.”
She concluded: “As a school, we celebrate this milestone and look forward to even greater accomplishments as we continue to raise the Makseth flag high.”
Romano Rose, Christiano and Izabella’s father, said he was excited about his children’s performance.
“This victory is especially meaningful as Christiano is still new to the golf scene in Zimbabwe,” Rose said.
“Massive thanks and gratitude go to Makseth International School, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in helping Christiano and Izabella balance both academic and sporting commitments. Their dedication has provided them with the resources and guidance to develop their games while continuing to excel in their studies.
“With his talent, dedication and the support of his school and coaches, Christiano is one of Zimbabwe’s most promising junior golfers, and we are excited to see what he achieves in the coming years.”
In November 2024, the school organised a friendly tournament with ISM Dubai and participated in a tennis competition in which one of its pupils, Theophilous Tizora, won a prize.
In August 2025, Makseth also made history when its student, then Grade 5 pupil Nonsikelelo Ncube, secured a top-10 spot at the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) BaulHouse debate competition held in South Africa. The pupil ranked fifth among participants from southern Africa at the Johannesburg competition, where four additional Makseth pupils made the top 20 out of over 300 students from various Sadc countries.
Such experiences, Bako said, inspire students to think beyond their classrooms, fostering ambition and creativity.
Makseth has been recognised for prioritising international exposure and extracurricular activities to equip its students for both academic success and a life rich with opportunities and challenges.
