Chicken Inn down Triangle

Tonderai Ndiraya

MARIAN Marinica, coach of the Zimbabwe national football team, was among the spectators as Tonderai Ndiraya registered his first home victory at Barbourfields Stadium after Chicken Inn FC beat Triangle United FC 2-0 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match yesterday.

Although the scoreline suggested a comfortable victory for the Gamecocks, the encounter was more competitive as Triangle enjoyed some good spells of possession but struggled to convert their chances.

Chicken Inn got off to a bright start when Lynoth Chikuhwa opened the scoring in the ninth minute. The striker reacted fastest to a loose ball inside the box and slotted it home to give the hosts an early lead.

The Gamecocks maintained the pressure and eventually doubled their advantage through Innocent Masiwa, who sealed the win and maximum points for the Bulawayo side.

Ndiraya said he was pleased to finally play at Barbourfields after starting the season at Luveve Stadium, adding that the victory was important for the team’s confidence after picking up a point away to Herentals in Harare.

Triangle coach Thomas Ruzive remained positive despite his side’s second consecutive defeat of the season, noting that the team is still settling and showing signs of improvement compared to their opening match.

The result gives Chicken Inn a timely boost early in the campaign, while Triangle will be looking to bounce back as the season gathers momentum.
